KNEECAP was the last film I was able to see at the festival, and for me it was one of the funniest, most over-the-top and thoroughly entertaining of the KVIFF. The film is set in Northern Ireland and tells the story of a rather diverse trio, united by their passion for the Irish language and a decidedly excessive drug consumption. KNEECAP describes the turbulent success story of the real-life Northern Irish band. Almost by chance, they form themselves into a hip hop band and slowly rise to fame and local notoriety, always flanked by plenty of scandals. A fast-paced and entertaining film with captivating acting. In the tradition of the best British comedy classics such as TRAINSPOTTING or THE FULL MONTY, KNEECAP takes us on an amusing, tongue-in-cheek and politically incorrect journey and accompanies them in their fight for freedom through an independent Irish language. My moment of surprise was the fact that all the band members play themselves in it, in a highly professional and convincing way. The star factor is provided by the German-Irish actor Michael Fassbender, who plays the missing freedom fighter.
