THE HYPNOSIS, Europa Cinemas Label
KVIFF
The Swedish feature film THE HYPNOSIS, directed by Ernst De Geer, has won the Europa Cinemas Label as Best European film at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, it was announced today by a jury of three Europa Cinemas Network exhibitors. 2023 marks the seventeenth time the Label has been awarded in Karlovy Vary.
In receiving the Label, THE HYPNOSIS will benefit from the support of the Europa Cinemas Network, with additional promotion and incentives for exhibitors to extend the film’s run on screen.
The jury issued the following statement: “Ernst De Geer’s THE HYPNOSIS is a light and quirky satire and our unanimous choice as the winner of the Europa Cinemas Label here in Karlovy Vary. This Swedish debut feature film is a portrait of modern society with strong situational humor and impressive, razor sharp acting.
While today’s society may encourage individualism and the expression of one’s authentic self, it remains unyielding in its expectations regarding acceptable behavior.
Balanced and well-structured, this movie deserves visibility and we are already convinced that this film will be a success especially in cinemas all over Europe. We as a Jury want to encourage Ernst De Geer’s fresh work!”
The Europa Cinemas Label Jury of Karlovy Vary, here captured with the director Ernst de Geer, comprised this year Anna-Lena Arreborn (Bio Bristol, Sundbyberg, Sweden), Jörg Jacob (UNION-Studio für Filmkunst & PROVINZ Programmkino, Kaiserslautern, Germany) and Ilona van Heeckeren (Natlab, Eindhoven, Netherlands).
Sold internationally by Totem Films, THE HYPNOSIS is produced by Garagefilm International (Sweden), and co-produced by Film i Väst AB (Sweden), Mer Film AS (Norway) and Totem Atelier (France), and distributed in the following European countries:
