Passing of Michel Demopoulos
(1949-2023)
We learned with great sadness that Michel Demopoulos, our dear long-time Greek friend, passed away after a long illness.
Michel has been a companion of Europa Cinemas since its inception in 1992, a member of the Board of Directors since 1997. He was an assiduous member of our Committee of Experts, helping to define our Network.
Michel loved cinema and cinemas. He worked with great passion for the development of cinema in Greece as a film critic, programmer and festival director. His name will long be associated with the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, which he directed from 1991 to 2005.
He inspired many generations of film lovers, professionals and cinema exhibitors in his country and abroad.
His intellectual curiosity and engaging personality will be greatly missed. Our sincere condolences to his family and friends.
