YANNICK will now receive the support of the Europa Cinemas Network, with additional promotion and incentives for exhibitors to extend the film’s run on screen.

The jury issued the following statement:

“Among the European films in Concorso internazionale and Concorso Cineasti del presente a couple of films stood out, but we took the decision to award the Label to a film that presented a particular potential for European cinemas to attract a broad audience.

This comedy benefits from an original plot that is questioning the position of an elitist society, but also the untouchability of art in general. It’s well written, clever and funny. The main actor’s performance is outstanding, keeping us on the edge of our seats, always asking ourselves who is in control in this game of power. We’re happy to award the Europa Cinemas Label to YANNICK by Quentin Dupieux.”

The Europa Cinemas Label Jury of Locarno this year comprised Arvid Liedtke (Yorck Kinogruppe, Berlin, Germany), Franco Savelli (Cinemaincentro, Faenza, Italy) and Miranda van Gelder (Hoogt on Tour, Utrecht, Netherlands) and Frédéric Cornet (Cinema Galeries, Brussels, Belgium).

Sold internationally by Kinology, YANNICK is produced by Atelier de Production (France) and Chi-Fou-Mi Productions (France) and distributed in the following European countries:

The cast includes Raphaël Quenard, Pio Marmaï, Blanche Gardin and Sébastien Chassagne. The script, image and editing is by Quentin Dupieux. Art direction by Joan Le Boru, production design by Bruno Hadjadj, costume design by Elfie Carlier and sound by Guillaume Le Braz and Alexis Place.

Synopsis: In the middle of a performance of “The Cuckold”, a very bad boulevard play, Yannick gets up and interrupts the show to take control of the evening...
